The First Speech – Ice Breaker

Ice Breaker Speech

Haven chosen a path in Pathways, the first speech – Ice Breaker – may be delivered. 

The Ice Breaker is the first project of any Pathway. It’s about introducing yourself to the club and learning the basic structure of a public 4-6 minutes speech. Check with your mentor or VPE for any questions.

Checklist:

  • Choose your Pathway on the Toastmaster Website toastmasters.org. If you don’t have access to the Website yet, you can go directly to this link  to start your Ice Breaker project. You can update your Pathway in Base Camp later
  • Follow the instructions of the educational program Base Camp. If you have difficulties to navigate through Base Camp, check out this video 
  • Request your speech with the VP Education (VPE) on easy-speak. Add your title and the language of your speech in bracket (English, German or French)
  • Choose your workbook and project and 3 possible dates for your speech. This will help the VPE to schedule your speech
  • Write your speech using The Ice Breaker Outline Worksheet (PDF)
  • Rehearse your speech
  • Talk with your Evaluator about your speech objectives and give him/her your Ice_Breaker_Evaluation_Resource
  • Present your speech
  • After your speech, go back to Base Camp and fill out the second part of the self-assessment “Assess Your Skills – After” in order to close the Ice Breaker project
